Parivartan Social Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in India which focuses on bringing positive changes in the lives of the underprivileged, by empowering students and teachers through education. They were looking for Volunteers to re-design their current website and update information about their contributions to the society.
My Role
My responsibilty in this project included designing the User Interface, User Experience, Wireframing, Prototyping as well as presenting the final designs.
- Update the website by showing Parivartan’s current impact including their significant work during COVID. - Design the website adhering with new brand identity of Parivartan. - Establish a consistent and strong digital presence and reach Volunteers through the website.
Goal
- To design inituitive website showingcasing Parivartan’s contribution to the society. - To appeal to the potential volunteers and inspire them to volunteer by showing testimonials of current volunteers and the people they’ve helped. - To show PSF’s impact during COVID through visuals and social proof.
The Approach
Sowmya and I started out by analysing current website problems, gathering more information about Parivartan’s contributions with the help of Bharat Sir (Parivartan’s representative). Next, we analysed other NGO’s websites and realised that their websites were majorly focused on showing their contribution and collecting donations. Our major focus with the Parivartan website re-design was reaching out to people and inspiring them to Volunteer; therefore making the website more Volunteer centric than Donation centric. Sowmya started by designing the landing page which set a basic idea of the navigation, after which we divided the screens equally to be able to design them faster.
My Screens : - Volunteer Remotely - What our Volunteers have to say - Stories that Inspire - How to Volunteer - Covid Update - Press Updates
Wireframes
I drew some sketches to get a basic idea of the flow and since Sowmya had already setup the design system, I was able to make high-fidelity screens in no time.
Adding strong imagery, effective text and volunteer testimonials in the Volunteer Remotely page makes it easy to understand, thus helping potential volunteers know just the right amount of information before filling up the Volunteer Application form.
Conclusion
Due to this opportunity, I’ve learnt so many things that are definitely going to help me in the future. I’ve learnt the importance of negative spacing in designs from Sowmya and also standing up for your design decisions and communicating them effectively. Sowmya helped me along the way and made sure that both of us were on the same page. Secondly, because of Bharat sir, who always motivated us along the way and made the communication process much easier, I understood the importance of teamwork. Even if we didn’t get to research the user in depth, I am grateful that i got to interact with stakeholders and understand their point of view and design solutions accordingly. I was able to help an organisation who is bringing about Real Change in the Real World just by contributing my design skills from the comfort of my home. It was a privilege to be a part of the Parivartan Social Foundation, even if it was just for a brief amount of time. All in all, it was a wonderful experience!
